MAF Problems

M.A.F sensor stands for Mass Air Flow Sensor

This sensor usually fails due to aftermarket filter oil or just normal everyday road dirt.

Cleaning the MAF

Note

It is a very bad idea to physically touch the MAF sensor with anything other than Isopropyl Alcohol (99.9% Purity). I have purchased mine from

www.cfsnet.co.uk

These are the steps I take to clean my MAF:

Pic 1 Place the MAF in a large zip-lock bag.
Pic 2 Fill the bag up with Isopropyl Alcohol so that about half of the MAF is submerged.
Pic 3 Then shake it and transfer the MAF into another zip-lock bag, repeat the process as many times as needed (I usually do it twice or three times).
Pic 4 Finally let the MAF dry overnight

The error code that VAG COM may bring up in the case of a faulty sensor is:

- Address 01: Engine: 17550 Load Calculation Cross Check -

If the sensor is not faulty and only a bit dirty, this code may not come up.
